Hi,

I've been looking in detail at usage statistics recently, and have noticed that it would appear that our A&I databases actually seem to be increasing in their usage! I have yet to come up with a plausible explanation; the nearest I've got is that I am wondering if it might have something to do with A&I databases (in my experience at least) being easier to access. I'm sure we can all think of full-text examples with tortuous access routes!

I may speak alone here but I wouldn't set a level under which a resource must be cancelled - I think most of our resources may have been cancelled long ago if that was the case! That said, I am considering the viability of a number of our A&I databases myself: time and time again our users tell us they want more full-text, so we do need to respond to that, despite what our stats are telling us!

Best wishes,

Sarah

Subject: [lis-e-resources] "Cost per abstract" query

Hi there
We all use statistics in one way or another to justify either keeping or getting rid of online subscriptions.

Would anyone be able to share with me the point where they start to question the need for A&I datbases? Do you measure it by "cost per abstract" and, if so, what would be the figure where you would recommend and/or insist that the resource gets cancelled?

Kind regards
Elizabeth
