Hours: Full Time

Salary (inclusive of London allowance) £28,057 – £29,585 per annum

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for arranging and carrying out research interviews with adults with learning difficulties and mental disorders. The research project aims to investigate the role of DNA variation in this group of people. This post is envisaged to involve travelling to meet volunteers at their home or in clinical settings away from the department. The successful candidate will also be required to collect blood and/or saliva samples from volunteers. In addition he/she will be expected to complete interview questionnaires and input data into databases. All of the above requires exemplary record keeping. The post holder will be expected to attend and present the project and its findings at meetings and seminars and contributing strongly to a research group that practises a very high standard of science. The position is funded for 18 months in the first instance by the Bailey Thomas Charitable Research Fund.

 

Key Requirements

A BSc degree in neurosciences, genetics, psychology or related subject area is essential. The position requires strong organisational and interpersonal skills and would suit anyone interested in psychiatry, psychology and human genetics research. Full training in the use of the interview schedules and in phlebotomy will be given. Experience of working with people with mental health problems or learning difficulties or in genetic counselling is essential. The position will involve working with vulnerable people and therefore we will need to carry out a CRB check and obtain an NHS research passport for the successful candidate.
