Bringing up Baby can get a really good discussion going with students. Stanley Cavell Pursuits of Happiness great set reading with it. But you dont' want the students to read it beforehand. Given that you have a subject who is most commonly associated with the western, perhaps it's worth emphasizing the other genres in the treatment of Hawks.
