exURBAN SCREENS :: A new event for digital screens and media


exURBAN SCREENS is a new event that will engage audiences through
digital screens and media content in the public domain and “outer”
spaces that characterize the frontiers of our ever expanding cities.
Urban centres and the exurban fringe are attracted to each other in a
push/pull relationship; expanding in all directions, growing at
different scales.

The inaugural exURBAN SCREENS project will use contemporary media art
as a conduit between urbanality and the social and cultural dynamics
of the outer boundaries of our cities. Based in Frankston at the
fringe of Melbourne (Australia) the inaugural project will consist of
a number of sites including gallery and public spaces and will feature
works from around the world including Australian artist Ian de Gruchy.

The call for entries is now open to media and video artists,
distributors, producers, galleries, filmmakers, universities or
institutions from all over the world. You are invited to submit works
for the inaugural exURBAN SCREENS project that will be held between 23
June and 7 July 2012.

exURBAN SCREENS is seeking works through this open call in the form of
moving image (videos, motion graphics, animation) and still images
(photographic works for light boxes or mural-sized prints). Creative
producers of all types are challenged to respond to
‘ex/sub/light/outer’ urban setting of exURBAN SCREENS and/or the
curatorial theme ‘(Is there) Light in outer space?’.
