you can get free Kindle apps for PC, Mac or even Linux and too there's an online Kindle at Amazon for anyone with an account with them. Finally, if a work doesn't suffer from the dreaded DRMs (Digital Rights Management) non-Amazonian software like Calibre will be able to read it.
