We are currently reviewing our data protection policy and auditing the personal data we currently hold to ensure that we are compliant. During this process a question has arisen as to whether the names of teachers, together with the addresses of their schools is classified as personal data.

In the past we have taken the names and addresses for teachers in order to send them education packs (on request). If possible we would like to use these contacts to keep schools informed of our ongoing education work. However, as this was not the purpose of collecting the data in the first instance we are not sure if this is a permitted use.

Obviously home addresses for teachers and home educators would be classified as personal data, but the situation seems less clear cut when it comes to a name and an organisational address.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
