Vacancy for full time, one year fixed term Statistician I

Salary on AfC Band 5 (£21,176 - £27,534)
New entrants to the NHS would normally start at the minimum of the band

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a Special Health Authority within the NHS, responsible for optimising the supply of blood, organs, plasma and tissues and raising the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of blood and transplant services. A vacancy has arisen for a Statistician I in the Statistics and Clinical Audit Service of NHS Blood and Transplant, to be based at NHSBT's offices in north Bristol. The post is fixed term for 12 months.

The Statistics and Clinical Audit service of NHSBT is responsible for the design and analysis of studies in organ and tissue donation and transplantation, blood donation and transfusion medicine. Following a merger between Statistics and Clinical Audit and NHSBTs Clinical Studies Unit, the service will shortly assume responsibility for the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials in these areas. A clinical audit programme, designed to continuously improve the quality of care provided to donors and recipients of organs and blood components, is also undertaken.

This post gives an opportunity for recent or potential graduates from a Masters programme in statistics, or an undergraduate programme with a substantial statistical component, to join a large team of statisticians and become involved in a wide range of statistical activities. The post will involve collaborative work with clinicians and others working in organ transplantation, blood donation and transfusion medicine and so the individual appointed will have excellent communication skills. The ability to work to deadlines, both individually and as part of a team, is essential and some knowledge of the SAS software is desirable.

Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Professor Dave Collett, the Associate Director of Statistics and Clinical Audit (email: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
