NHS Blood and Transplant, Bristol

Vacancy for permanent full time Principal Statistician

Salary on AfC Band 8a (£38,851 - £46,621)

New entrants to the NHS would normally start at the minimum of the band

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a Special Health Authority within the NHS, responsible for optimising the supply of blood, organs, plasma and tissues and raising the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of blood and transplant services.  A vacancy has arisen for a Principal Statistician in Statistics and Clinical Audit, tenable at NHSBT’s offices in Stoke Gifford, north Bristol.

The Statistics and Clinical Audit service of NHSBT is responsible for the design and analysis of studies in organ and tissue donation and transplantation, blood donation and transfusion medicine.  Following a merger between Statistics and Clinical Audit and NHSBTs Clinical Studies Unit, the service will shortly assume responsibility for the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials in these areas.  A clinical audit programme, designed to continuously improve the quality of care provided to donors and recipients of organs and blood components, is also undertaken.

This post is an opportunity for someone with a postgraduate qualification in statistics and substantial experience in the application of statistics in a medical environment to join a large team of statisticians and clinical audit staff and become involved in a broad range of statistical and management activities.  The post will involve collaborative work with clinicians and others working in organ transplantation, blood donation and transfusion medicine and so the individual appointed will have excellent communication skills.  The ability to work to deadlines, both individually and as part of a team, is essential and knowledge of the SAS software is also necessary.

Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Professor Dave Collett, Associate Director of Statistics and Clinical Audit (email: [log in to unmask] or telephone 0117 975 7546)
