[cid:image001.png@01CC778C.D3604410] *Apologies for any cross-posting* Dear Colleague, Good Practice in Research Ethics 24th May 2012 King's Manor, York http://www.ukcge.ac.uk/events/eventsarea/ethics12 In an increasingly complex HE environment, research is increasingly relied on for income, reputation building, and international outreach. Collaborations of various kinds take place, many in an international context, and the risk of compromised research integrity is increased. International research students, multi-partner research projects, the pressures on institutions to increase their outputs and income, all place stress on the need for vigilance in research integrity. Two major reports issued in 2011 highlighted these concerns --the Woolf report and the Parliamentary Select Committee report into peer review - and both found that institutions are currently very limited in their ability to maintain proper oversight when research integrity is compromised because existing governance structures are inadequate. This workshop will explore the theme of research integrity from this perspective and look at one way that institutions might approach tackling the issues. The problems inherent in collaboration between institutions, particularly when integrity is challenged, will be discussed in the morning. In the afternoon sessions, the role of increasing awareness of research professionalism -- particularly for research students and postdoctoral researchers -- as a point from which those challenges to integrity can be addressed A copy of the draft programme for the day is attached.
