Hi. When things get difficult to decide I go back to basics and ask myself a) has the condition lasted or likely to last longer than 12 month b) does the condition significantly affect their ADLS. C) Do they require permanent medication to help them manage their every day activities. Then usually the answer becomes clearer.

In my opinion, if the individual is experiencing symptoms of “severe anaemia” I am surprised her GP has not prescribed alternative treatment to iron tablets or arranged an urgent referral to  a gynaecologist for advice/ review her health condition.

Personally I would say no, however most companies take into account the difficulty this causes.

Might be worth her asking her GP about Tranexamic acid…until she has surgery its ‘brilliant’

HI all,

Just seeking some advice.

I have an employee who was diagnosed with fibroids in March 2011 and is suffering from severe anaemia due to heavy PV bleeding, for which she is on iron tablets. She is currently awaiting surgery.

We are having a debate whether or not she would be classed as disabled under the Equality Act.

I would appreciate your opinion.

Thanks in advance

Justin
