A reminder of our next seminar which will be held on Wednesday 25th April. We are very pleased to have Professor REN Fujun (Director of CRISP & Tsinghua University, Beijing) speaking.

REN Fujun is the general director of CRISP. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Harbin Institute of Science and Technology. Professor Ren is the Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal Science Popularization, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Communication Research Centre at CAST and Tsinghua University. He is also a professor at the Beijing Normal University, Chinese Science & Technology University and Harbin University of Science and Technology. His present research interests focus on science popularisation.

Title: Science Communication in China: a Cultural Perspective
 
Abstract: 
After a short introduction of CRISP, the seminar consists of four parts. The first part will discuss the science Culture and the importance of a  modelling approach: science communication. Then various science communication practices in China will be presented as well as details on the Chinese Civic Scientific Literacy Survey, the latest of which was conducted in 2010 (N=64,000 interviews). At last, the speaker will give some thoughts on science culture’s future and the relevant research in China.

About the Seminar Series
The London PUS seminar is an interdisciplinary intercollegiate seminar concerned with the broad range of topics that fall under the headings of public understanding of science, public engagement with science, science communication, and science-in-society.  It has been run jointly between LSE and UCL since 1993 and is open to all. Our participants predominantly come from a wide range of academic disciplines, and the science policy and science communication/public engagement communities. It is currently supported by the Public Understanding of Science journal published by SAGE and the Department of Science and Technology Studies, UCL.
