Winchester Centre for Global Futures in Art Design & Media

Global Futures Lecture
Friday 4 May @ 3pm in Lecture Theatre A

Victor Burgin, conceptual artist, political photographer, painter, academic

A Perspective on Digital Light

Victor Burgin’s perspective on "digital light" is that of someone who trained as a painter, who later became a photographer, then a video maker, and who now works with virtual cameras in computer generated space. He shall be remarking upon what he sees as the currently evolving nature of the camera and the camera image in the environment of electronic computation. As Victor situates his art practice not only in relation to its genealogy but also by reference to the flux of images in contemporary life, he will begin with some observations about the general image environment of the "mass media" before he talks about the specificity of his own practice within this context.

This lecture is free and open to the pubic and will be followed by a Q&A session.
