italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

The Italian Voices project at the University of Leeds, which is investigating how Italian oral culture related to written culture in the society of early modern Italy and how far it was independent of writing, is organizing panels at the next RSA conference in San Diego (4-6 April 2013) on the interaction between orality and writing in a variety of contexts, from the palazzo to the piazza, from the church to the private household. The themes to be studied are:

- Performance (including spoken and sung texts)
- Politics (including orations, proclamations, and poetry)
- Religion (including devotion, preaching, and the circulation of orthodox and heterodox ideas)
- The variety of linguistic usage found in oral texts.

To propose a 20-minute paper for these sessions, please email your contact information, an abstract of between 100 and 150 words, keywords, a one-page curriculum vitae, and an indication of which of the four themes the paper concerns, to [log in to unmask], by 18 May 2012.
