italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies


Translators (novice or experienced), language teachers and students may be interested in participating in the following event to be held at the La Trobe University City Campus in Melbourne this July. Please circulate widely.

Literary Translation Winter School & Festival

Monash University, School of Languages, Cultures & Linguistics
July 3-7, 2012

 The theme for the second annual Translation Winter School & Festival is TRANSLATION, TRANSNATION, giving emphasis to the connections between transnational writing and the practice of translation. The event is aimed at students, writers, professional translators, language teachers and anyone interested in literary translation! A week-long residential program of hands-on translation practice is accompanied by public talks and panel discussions addressing a wide range of topics, as well as networking opportunities. Daily translation workshops are led by both an expert translator and the author of the text to be translated.

Working languages for the 2012 Winter School are: ITALIAN, JAPANESE & CHINESE (MANDARIN).

Registration fee: (including participation in daily workshops and all public events, all materials, morning tea and lunch on workshop days, plus welcome reception): Waged: AUD$400 (incl. GST); Student/Unwaged: AUD$290 (incl. GST). There will also be a closing luncheon on the final day (cost tba).
