We are seeking to appoint an outstanding statistician with an excellent track record of research and the potential for research leadership in an area which will enhance and extend the current interests of the Statistics group in the Mathematics Academic Unit and in the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI). Excellent candidates in any area of statistics will be seriously considered.

The position arises as a result of successful grant applications, and the appointee will be expected to play a major role in further enhancing our research profile and in developing and delivering our teaching programme. The appointment is for a fixed term of 5 years, with an expectation that, subject to satisfactory performance, the post will be confirmed as a permanent position at the end of the five-year period. In order to allow the appointee to develop his or her research profile, the overall teaching load will be reduced in the first three years of the appointment.

Duties, as determined by the Head of Academic Unit, will include: conducting research of international status in statistics and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics and statistics. As part of the role you will also be expected to support effective management and administration of the School.

The position is available from 1 October 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.

It is expected that interviews will be held in June 2012. As part of the interview process, candidates will be invited to give a research presentation.

Informal enquiries can be made at any time to: Professor Steven Gilmour, email: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, tel. +44 (0)23 8059 3671.
