Just a remark: I didn't know there were so many unfilmed screenplays from known writers. 


I thought producers would "fight" for screenplays from known writers.  Only in my imagination, obviously.

here is another one: Harold Pinter's unfilmed Proust Screenplay (1972, the last one he wrote for Joseph Losey) was first adapted into a radio play by Michael Bakewell for BBC Radio Three and broadcast in 31 december 1995 and then was turned into a stage play by Pinter and Diana Trevis and staged in 2000 at the Royal National Theatre in London.
