And - just to add to the bad PR - Prometheus' own punishment was to be tied to a rock for all eternity, where each day an eagle would tear at his liver (and each night his liver would, of course, regenerate itself).

It does seem a truly heroic quest, to 'steal fire from the sun' on behalf of mankind. 

Wasn't the Greek hero Prometheus also advised against attempting exactly the same enterprise? 

The Prometheus legend isn't terribly useful for PR purposes though, since mankind's punishment for such audacity was Pandora's Box, which, when opened, released all the ills of the world...
