HIthat excellent document posted by Karen Coomer indicates Access to Work is free for self employed people - could she not be deemed as self employed? They should then do the assessment and fund any equipment including dragon. Perhaps a visit to the disability adviser at the job center plus would be helpful. If not then Remploy may be of assistance.

I have been asked a question - friend of a friend, medically retired from job due to Betchets disease, poor woman even had total jaw replacement last year. Now writes, aiming at publication but hasnt made any money yet. Just been told by rheumatologist she has arthritis in fingers and thumbs, significantly affecting her writing activities. I advised looking at Dragon but also said that in an ideal world she needed a DSE assessment to look at other aspects as the effects of her disease are so extensiveeg not sure if she uses a laptop or PC, does she have proper office etc However - as she is not "employed" as such how would she access such a thing? Any ideas please, re access to services and any ideas on equipment - really want to be able to point her in right direction
