medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Crazy, perhaps (especially the part about no coffee!), but it's not absolutely absurd, really. The people involved in the project will learn all kinds of things like what they realize they don't know. When I was in high school, my US History class did a little thing where we made a meal to share with visitors to a log cabin trying to use the technology and ingredients from the 1870s or thereabouts. The rabbit stew and the grilled quail were great, but we discovered that we had no idea how to bake potatoes in a fire without aluminum foil and an old woman who came by told us that when she was a little girl, they wrapped them in mud, making essentially a clay casing. So, we'll see what they can create. There are, of course, going to be serious limits on authenticity; they'll need to find monks willing to live and pray in such an environment and a lay populace that actually wants to take the religious thing seriously. Then, of course, there are also the social and political institutions that simply cannot be recreated (I doubt that the German government is really going to turn the town over to a relatively independent monastery that gets to set tax and labor law, for example).

Is a Schnapsidee a crazy idea one comes up with while drinking?
