RE: Globe to Globe 2012

PanCathay is delighted to be working with Shakespeare’s Globe to help promote this unique performance of Richard III in Mandarin. We are aiming for a sell-out audience to attend the three performances which will be held on the 28th and 29th of April.

We are writing to you today to introduce you to Shakespeare’s Globe, one of the UK’s most iconic and well-respected arts institutions, and to a Chinese language performance of Richard III encompassed in its Globe to Globe season taking place this spring.

Starting on the 21st April, for the first time in a single theatre season, all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays will be presented in a different language at the world-famous Shakespeare’s Globe, each by a different theatre company from around the world. This is by far the most ambitious project ever undertaken by the theatre, and is a chance to use an exchange of cultural practices and theatrical traditions to further international understanding and co-operation. It is intended that the Globe to Globe season will also include strong audience development and education elements.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has called Shakespeare “the greatest writer who ever lived” and, as part of the season, the National Theatre of China will be flying into London for a four night stay in April 2012, and will be performing Richard III in Mandarin Chinese on Saturday 28th April at 2.30pm, and on Sunday 29th April at 1.30pm & 6.30pm. The production- the first ever to be performed in Mandarin at the Globe- is expected to attract audiences of around 1,500 per performance, and the use of English language captioning will make it a fascinating experience for Chinese and English viewers alike. As part of the Globe’s commitment to providing high-class theatre for all, ticket prices begin at only £5, and can be booked via the Shakespeare’s Globe box office (+44 (0) 207 401 9919) or online (https://tickets.shakespearesglobe.com/selecteics.asp).

We hope that you are as excited as we are about this once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Shakespeare’s international appeal and Chinese theatre, and that you would like to become involved with the Globe to Globe season. We would love to see you here at Shakespeare’s Globe and hope that you will be able to join us for one of the three performances in April. Shakespeare’s globe is also seeking to raise sponsorship to cover the costs of the National Theatre of China’s travel from China and time in London. A generous range of sponsor benefits include, but are not limited to, branding on performance literature, complimentary tickets and private hospitality, along with written recognition of support on the Globe’s in-house supporter’s board and online. If you would like to discuss sponsorship or have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Yingbing Liu (刘颖冰) at PanCathay on 020 7407 8900, or email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Yours sincerely,

Anthony Hewitt Madeleine Sturrock

Director of Development Managing Director
