italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies



The College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtic Studies at the National
University of Ireland, Galway has announced a new round of Scholarships for
structured PhD programmes across all areas of the College, including modern
languages.

Italian studies at NUI Galway encourages suitable students to consider
applying for the scholarships in areas directly connected with the research
interest of staff in the Discipline of Italian Studies.

Italian Studies at NUI Galway is an ambitious, dynamic discipline. Our
academics have won European awards for creativity and innovation in language
teaching, and achieved international reputation for their research. We offer
an intellectually engaging and productive research environment with several
Ph.D and MA students working on topics ranging from cinema studies,
childrenšs literature, language acquisition and contemporary Italian culture
and society. Our postgraduate students work individually and in teams, and
organize research days and cultural and social events, enhancing the profile
and visibility of Italy and Italian culture in Galway and its region.

Areas of research interest in the Discipline include: critical theory,
comparative studies and translation theory and practice, 19th Century
literature, childrenšs literature, linguistics and language acquisition.

The deadline for receipt of applications for the Scholarships is 5 pm (GMT),
on Thursday 5th April, 2012.
