On behalf of the organizing committee, we are pleased to invite you to
participate to the International Earth Science Colloquium on the Aegean Region
(IESCA-2012) which will be held from 1-5 October 2012 in İzmir, Turkey. Please
remember to submit your abstracts for oral and poster presentations by May, 15th,
2012. Abstracts should be submitted using the online submission system on the
IESCA-2012 website.
IESCA-2012 intends to be a global forum for researchers to present and
discuss recent studies on the geology of the Aegean region. The Aegean region
plays an important role in our understanding of geological problems of the
eastern Mediterranean region and preserves important records of geological
processes which have operated in a zone of convergence. Many examples of
metamorphic, magmatic and sedimentary processes and related economic mineral
deposits and energy resources of the region have already been extensively
studied by earth scientists from around the world. This geological wealth is a
consequence of a regional tectonic setting in which several continental blocks
were amalgamated via Tethyan subduction events, giving rise to the present
configuration of the region. The colloquium will be organized broadly along the
lines of several regional geological topics, including tectonics, metamorphism,
magmatism, sedimentation, GIS and remote sensing, geophysical research, mining
and mineral deposits, energy resources and engineering geology. We are also
pleased to announce that selected abstracts will be published within special
issues of indexed journals. The organizing committee also encourages companies
and institutions to showcase their modern products and equipment in the
conference area.
The congress will be held in Desem Conference Center-Dokuz Eylül University,
İZMİR. The city is attracting millions of people with its beautiful nature and
historical riches every year (http://www.expoizmir.org.tr/en).
In addition to scientific seminars, a wide range of social programs including
city tours and visits to historical places as well as field trips will be
available in pre-, post- and during the congress.
