Thanks to all who have replied. I forgot to put on the original email that the student has their own dictaphone and we have asked for a copy of that to transcribe, which was then followed by the complaint. It appears from the responses I have had that by requesting the recording (in addition to asking lecturers for notes and other suggestions given), we are being reasonable.
