Well, what are many of the North American academics who openly "position" themselves as "politically-engaged, progressive educators" doing? Scrambling for positions at insulated high prestige colleges and universities. What are they not doing? Running to the community colleges that work directly with poor and minority students - students struggling to re-tool themselves for transformations in the economy. The felt (yet largely publically unspoken) disdain for community colleges among many of these educators is quite sad. So what good is to come from this state of affairs? Who benefits?
