Enhancing Fieldwork Learning Showcase Event 2012

Friday 14th-16th September 2012

FSC Preston Montford, Shropshire

As part of a 3-year National Teaching Fellowship Project funded by the Higher Education Academy, you are invited to attend and contribute to a showcase event to share and exchange ideas and practice with regards to using technology or innovation to enhance fieldwork learning.  This event should be of interest to Physical Geography, Human Geography, Earth, Environmental and Bioscience practitioners.

The event will showcase a number of simple technologies which can enhance fieldwork learning e.g. how to shoot and edit videos using only a smartphone, applications of iPads in fieldwork.  We also welcome non-technology contributions that highlight innovative or effective fieldwork practice.  We expect the event to be hands-on, active and largely outdoors with short thunderstorm presentations to introduce the relevant sessions.

The 2011 showcase event was well received with over 25 participants from 16 HEIs.  The event led to active discussions, shared practice and good networking opportunities amongst the demonstrators and participants.  Feedback from the participants at this event can be seen at the dedicated webpage: http://www.enhancingfieldwork.org.uk/events.asp

This is a free event (accommodation and food) which is limited to 25 places which will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.  We ask that participants cover their own travel costs to and from the event.  Early career practitioners are encouraged to apply for a small number of travel bursaries which will be available to them.

If you are interested in potentially contributing to/attending this event, e-mail a title and short abstract (~300 word) to Katharine Welsh [log in to unmask] outlining (a) the technology that you wish to demonstrate or (b) express your interest in attending as a delegate only.

Deadline for expression of interest and abstract submission is 15th May 2012.
