Dear all

First of all, apologies, I know this is a CW list, but I'm thinking some of you might teach across the disciplines (whether you want to or not!) We're looking for someone to contribute to a study guide for English and Creative Writing. The ideal person will have taught English Lit in HE within FE or HE, and be able to write the English Lit section of the guide.

The contract is with small publisher, Anthem Press. The purpose of the guide was to cater for students who are increasingly busy with jobs/caring/family etc. We wanted to provide a clear (as possible) guide that deals with things like marking criteria, the joint honours. How to juggle the academic with all the extra responsibilities, how to understand what is wanted from an assignment / exams and so on. One of the ideas was that it would act as a 'guerilla guide', a basic aid to study, demystifying things like learning outcomes and so on, for those who are increasingly limited time-wise.

We plan to make it very student-friendly and readable, with hints and tips pages from past and present students, 'bloopers', helpful exercises and examples of past work.

Language and Creative Writing are covered, but the person who was going to cover English Literature has had a change of circumstances. We need somebody to write this section who has experience of teaching English Literature. Preferably someone who has worked with a varied demographic of students, perhaps a University Centre in a college, a University that has undergone transition etc and who believes in the ethos of the guide. We want the writing style to be informal but informative.

If you are interested, you can email me directly at [log in to unmask] with queries / for more information.

Or, you can send a brief CV and a sample of writing to the above. We want to select someone by the end of the week.

Our deadline for getting a first draft together is July 2012. We need to submit by September 2012. The publication date is early 2013.

Please note, this is royalties only, to be shared between 4. There was no advance.  We wanted to write the guide, however daft it might sound, to help students. Particularly those who are struggling to get degrees in difficult circumstances and who don't have much patience for the more academic, and perhaps dry, guides that are out there.

Hope to hear from you,

Dr Sarah Dobbs
