It was interesting in the CILIP update review that one of the least
popular topics was conference reporting. I imagine this is because they
are out of date by the time they are published in print and too specific
for a general audience. I imagine the need for this type of coverage has
been replaced by blogs and tweets which are more immediate and the
reader can pick and choose events.

Tools like Storify (http://storify.com/) and CoverItLive
(http://www.coveritlive.com/) are good for capturing and saving tweets
to look over again later - both work well for events particularly if you
use a consistent hashtag (a word with the hash sign in front of it, e.g.

#CIGEforum).

That's excessively brave! :)

I'll let others comment further on the usefulness of Twitter for
watching events that you are not attending but it's certainly something
I've done before now and sometimes it's a brilliant way to catch up,
sometimes it's less useful than blogs and later write ups of the same
event.
