Medical Statistician and Clinical Trial Analyst (Fixed-term)

£27,578 - £35,938 per annum, pro rata, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Applications are invited for a new role within the Nottingham Digestive Diseases Centre Biomedical Research Unit in gastroenterology for a Medical Statistician and Clinical Trial Analyst to support its research programme in translational medicine.

We require a Statistician to help particularly in study design and analysis of pilot studies to aid grant applications from hepatologists and gastroenterologists of the Biomedical Research Unit.  The work performed is wide ranging including epidemiology, small experimental medicine studies as well as large randomise controlled trials managed through the clinical trials unit.  The successful candidate will be working collaboratively with researchers from the design through to analyses and dissemination.  Responsibilities will include providing and leading on statistical advice at all stages of the research process, working on research proposals with clinicians, leading and assisting the design of statistical analysis on a variety of studies, power calculations, statistical support with grant applications and undertaking analysis of data. You will also be required to lead on teaching events such as workshops, seminars and journal clubs.

Candidates should hold a higher degree (e.g. MSc) in Medical Statistics or equivalent relevant experience with excellent knowledge of STATA or equivalent statistical packages e.g. SAS, SPSS.  You will also have experience in applying statistical methods in a health care setting.

This full time post is available from 1 April 2012 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of three years.
