---------------

We recently purchased a capsule from Preservation Equipment Ltd. They
are expensive but it seemed very robust. However, it was a cylinder -
which meant that it was very hard to fit things in and things were
forced into shape a little! Particularly because everything was in
polyester pockets. It was quite interesting trying to think what to put
it - there are very few things where the technology wont be redundant in
the future (probably about 5 years time!) or you have much hope of the
object surviving e.g. newspapers and magazines.

Kind regards

Brian Durrans at the British Museum Department of Africa, Oceania and
the Americas is a world expert in time capsules. I expect you'll find
something by him online.

I found these links through 'google', from American heritage
organisations, but probably still relevant regarding materials for the
capsule itself.

Subject: [SHCG-LIST] Time Capsules

Tees Archaeology are looking to do a time capsule with the local history
group for the Diamond Jubilee. They were asking for advice about the
type of container they could use and I haven't a clue and wondered if
anyone had any ideas?
