Tarddiad “disgust” yw dis- prefix + gusto taste, lle mae dis- = “removal, aversion, negation, reversal of action, as discalceātus unshod, diffibulāre to unclasp, disjungĕre disjoin, displicēre displease, dissociāre dissociate, dissuādēre, dissuade.”
Mae Tomkins wedi cymryd yr elfen dis- fel uchod a rhoi “smell” yn lle “gust” (= blas) fel yr ail elfen.
Dyw “ffieiddio” ddim yn dilyn yr un patrwm, wrth gwrs.
Beth am ddweud “Mae ’na adwaith i ar/oglau drwg, y bathodd Tomkins y term Saesneg “dissmell” amdano, sef ffieiddio rhag ar/oglau drwg.”?

'Na'r broblem. On i wedi darllen y pwt 'na o'r we. Wedyn mae'r darn Saesneg sy gen i'n dweud "There's a reaction to bad odor, for which Tomkins coined the term dissmell. That's the cornerstone of prejudice, by the way, because we think the other person should be kept at a distance, as if he or she had a bad odor. It has nothing to do with odor as we get older, but it's keeping someone at a distance. Dissmell. Disgust. It's the sense that something we had tasted turns out to be foul. That's the affect behind divorce, isn't it? Etc etc. (Deunydd o America yw hwn gyda llaw ac felly'r sillafu).
Dw i wedi cyfieithu 'disgust' yn 'ffieidd-dod/ffiaidd sy'n eitha cryf, ond mae'r emosiynau/affeithiau hyn yn gryf iawn hefyd.
Falle bydde blas cas/blas drwg yn gweithio?

If disgust is a word indicating a bad taste, dissmell, Tomkins says, it is his analogue for a bad smell. The facial characteristics are upper lip wrinkled and head pulled back. The body may also withdraw distancing itself from the source of the bad smell. Dissmell is an early warning of noxious substances. Dissmell and disgust may operate independently or together at different intensities. Anyone on the receiving end of the dissmell affect, being treated as if they smell bad, will suffer reduced self-esteem and thus experience shame (Nathanson 1992: 125).

Mae’n bosib – er mai rhywbeth seicolegol yw e – math o ymateb (affaith cas/annymunol). Mae’r gwaith sy gen i yn ymwneud ag arfer adferol (restorative practices), yn arbennig yng nghyd-destun ysgolion a delio â chythrwfl a chweryla ymhlith disgyblion a hyd yn oed ymosodiadau. Un rhan o’r gwaith yw’r dadansoddiad seicolegol (o fath!), lle mae athrawon/plant yn ceisio dadansodd/deall yr hyn sydd wrth wraidd eu gweithredoedd. Cymhleth tu hwnt!!
