hi ho,

i'd like to float an idea which struck me at the eubi stakeholder's meeting, and hope to start some discussion on this subject.

the background is that i've found myself transformed from a eubi sceptic to a convert (yeah... i drank the cool-aid), and am thinking about the most effective way to engage with, influence, and ultimately implement this project for our maximum benefit. bearing in mind, that the UK is not (yet?) as well represented within the various WPs as some other nations and we have some catching up to do.

so here's the point:
eubi is organised around 13 Work Packages, as outlined in the graphic below.
BioImagingUK is organised around 14 Work Groups, which only vaguely correspond to the eubi WPs.

i think there should be better alignment between the two. obviously we dont need workgroups on the 5 strategic areas in the top half of the graphic (anyone for legal governance & ethical issues?). however the 8 technical working groups in the bottom half of the graphic are the heart of the initiative, and i think we should have bioimaginguk equivalents for each of them. we already have "training," and approximately have "data storeage and analysis". but the remaining 12 of our WGs are randomly associated with the remaining 6 eubi WPs.

why do i think this is a problem? well, in a nutshell, i think we will be fundamentally more effective at working with, influencing, and implementing EuroBioImaging if we organise ourselves around the same work packages.

i'm sure other people will think differently, and would really like to have some discussion on the pros and cons of these two different approaches to the organisation of bioimagingUK.

kurt
