The journal of Advances
in Dual Diagnosis is a quarterly publication offering a hugely valuable
source of information for practitioners, frontline staff, managers and
researchers working with people who are dually diagnosed. The journal aims to
support frontline workers in the delivery of evidence-based practice and
provides a forum for the debate of current issues and opinions.
As Emerald’s Journal
of the Week, access has been provided
free of charge until Sunday 19th February
Highlights from the
journal include:
Substance
use in early intervention services for psychosis
Vol. 4, Iss. 3, (2011), pp. 115-124
Alison Summers, Chinar Goel
This paper outlines the nature of early intervention (EI) services in psychosis
and discusses substance use in clients in this setting. It considers ways of
working with EI clients where substance use is an issue and argues that the EI
approach may be very appropriate for this subset of clients.
Co-existing
mental health and substance use and alcohol difficulties – why do we
persist with the term “dual diagnosis” within mental health
services?
Vol. 4, Iss. 4, (2011), pp. 162-172
Christian Guest, Mark Holland
This paper offers a critique of the term “dual
diagnosis” and explores the impact of this in terms of service users and
makes practical suggestions for alternative ways of conceptualising co-existing
mental health and substance difficulties.
A
way through the woods: opening pathways to mental health care for women with multiple
needs
Vol. 4, Iss. 2, (2011), pp. 63-74
Sarah Anderson
This paper reports on a pilot project that helps
women offenders and other women with multiple needs to access mental health care.
The findings outline practical implications for commissioners and service
managers of mental health care services for vulnerable women.
