Dear Colleague,

PGR International Collaborations: Opportunities & Challenges
8th March 2012
University of Strathclyde, Glasgow
http://www.ukcge.ac.uk/events/eventsarea/IntCollab11

There are many institutional drivers towards international partnerships which yield positive benefits to UK HEI's including a diversified income stream, joint prestigious research or teaching contracts and facilitating capacity building. Most HEI's have an internationalisation policy and a strategy of how to take these partnerships forward. In reality, many partnerships do not yield results and may lie inactive for many years before the institution terminates the partnership. Others flourish and prosper and can be financially rewarding and result in publications, joint research income and even off-shore campus development. How do you distinguish between the two?

International research collaborations nearly always raise the possibility of joint postgraduate education and these challenge the institution to develop a position on postgrad mobility, supervisory delivery and quality assurance. There are pitfalls and "man-traps" lying in wait to the unwary. There is a temptation to compromise on for example, admission criteria for international PGR students when faced with a potential to tap into a big fully-funded supply of students.

This workshop will explore a variety of examples of international PGR collaborations and highlight the opportunities that these offer to the institution and discuss some of the challenges that come with an influx of such students.

Please note that this event was originally due to be held in November 2011, but has now been rescheduled for 8th March. Delegates who had a confirmed booking for November will receive a separate email with further information.
