Dear Ellen, We offer a Level 7, 20 credit Aston University Certificate in L&T which is accredited by the HEA with Associate Fellowship. It is designed for PhD students and Research Assistants primarily but we also have some sessional staff undertaking the module. Although somewhat different, it is aligned to the first module of the PGCert and therefore, with an additional teaching observation, can be given APL for the PGCert. We do offer a component of this as First Steps Into Teaching, which is Pre-Service, aimed at e.g. PhD students who will be taking up Teaching duties in the near future. Currently First Syeps is un-accredited (we issue an attendance certificate) but we are working on getting it accredited at 50 hours or 5 CATS points. While a PreService PGCert might be validated by a University it is unlikely that the HEA would accredit a pre-service PGCert as meeting HEA Fellowship requirements (or at least I would hope they didn't!)
