Normal Labour & Birth: 7th International ResearchConference: Learning from Each Other

Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou, China

26th -30th October 2012

Hangzhou Normal University (HNU) is hosting the above Conference in Hangzhou, China on 26th -30th October 2012. This Conference series originated at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK and is widely supported by various maternity care and midwifery professional organizations around the world.

The Conference promotes normal labour and birth. The presentations this year will focus on:

1.            Defining and describing normal birth

2.            Education to promote normal labour and birth

3.            Care practices during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period

4.            Maternity and Health Care Policy

5.            Consumer information

This interdisciplinary, scientific conference brings together maternity care researchers, practitioners and consumers of maternity services to explore the state of the evidence related to the promotion of normal birth. The program creates a process of collaboration in the development of international research agenda on effective birth care.

The abstracts of papers by individuals or collaborative groups on the above themes intended to be presented at the Conference are now invited for submission. Abstract submission is preferrably done on-line. Please follow these links:

Abstract submission & registration

Please include the following information with your submission:

             Contact details: a single nominated contact including name, title, organization, address, telephone, fax and e-mail;

             Author basic information (primary and additional authors) which includes name, degree, title, postal address, email address, telephone and fax numbers;

             Author biography: 150 word summary of author's educational and experiential backgrounds, with indication as it relates to the qualifications to speak on the topic proposed;

             Abstract summary: 3-4 sentences that describe the content that will be used in Conference programme materials;

             References/bibliography;

             Relevance to Conference themes: author to rank the above five themes of the Conference in the order from 1 to 5 by relevance to abstract topic. One is the most relevant and five is the least.

 

Abstract requirements

1)            Abstract is not to exceed 400 words and should be submitted in a maximum of 12 point Times New Roman in no less than 1.5 spacing.

2)            Maximun words for the title of the abstract are 21.

3)            Please do not add any identifying information to the abstract, as it will be reviewed blind.

4)            It must be the abstract of an original work completed by 25th October 2012, structured to include a background, element of originality, method, results, discussion, conclusion, a statement that the results will be presented at the Conference and the preferred presentation mode (oral, poster or workshop).

Abstract review process

All abstracts will be peer reviewed. The instruments according to which the abstracts will be assessed are available on line for the reviewers.

 

Submission language

All abstracts submitted on-line should be in ENGLISH to facilitate the peer review and moderation process. Other forms of submission, such as by email or by post, can be done in either Chinese or English.

 

Presentation language

Papers and other research works can be presented in either English or Chinese. Please indicate on your submission in which of these languages you will present your work. Length of time for the presentation

1.            Concurrent session: Each presenter is allocated a maximum of 20 minutes including 5 minutes for discussion.

2.            Symposium: a presentation during which between 3 and 5 individuals present papers that have a common focus. The length of a symposium will be 90 minutes.

3.            Workshops: A workshop will allow significant time - at least half of the allocated workshop period for audience participation, exchange of ideas or developing skills.

4.            Poster presentations: The word limit for poster abstracts is 300 words. Posters will be displayed in the Exhibition Hall and for the duration of the Conference.

It is expected that presenter should be available at the poster for a designated hour with copies of their poster in order to discuss it with the participants. Specific information regarding size and mounting requirements will be provided with the notice of acceptance.

5.            Pecha Kucha: a simple presentation format where you show 20 slides each for 20 seconds (6.7 minutes in total)

 

Registration

All participants whose papers are submitted for presentation are expected to register for attendance at the Conference. Please note that the conference is not in a position to offer complementary registration to Presenters. Should you be accepted to present, you will be required to register and make payment thereof by 15 July 2012.

HNU Steering Group will compile a participant list for the conference that includes names, email addresses, cities and countries of participants. On your arrival at the Conference, you will be asked to indicate whether or not you concent to being on the participant list. You will also be asked whether or not you would like to be included in a mailing list by which the Conference Steering Committee and HNU may use for future feedback and circulation purposes.

Refunds and Cancellations

This conference incurs non-refundable expenses prior to the conference. Please read carefully and understand our cancellation policy before submitting your registration:

1.            Cancellation by individual registrant:

Should you require to cancel your registration you must do so immediately by  writing to Ms Caifang Zhang, [log in to unmask] or phone 0086 571-28865394 or fax at 0086 571 28865538 before 15th September 2012. After you have successfully contacted our office and we confirm your cancellation then your registration will be refunded less a 500 RMB handling charge. After 15th September, no refunds can be made for withdrawal. However, you may nominate someone else to attend the Conference, and the 500 RMB cancellation fee still applies to be paid either by the original registrant or by the person who attend the Conference.

2.            Cancellation by the orgonisers

Hangzhou Normal University reserves the right to cancel the Conference between 10-20 days, prior to the Conference date. Each registrant will be notified by telephone, followed by written notification and full refund. The university is responsible for any costs, including but not limited to airline or hotel penalties.

Accommodation

                The Conference has prebooked 160 rooms in a five-star/four-star hotel, at 300 yuan (≈ 300 RMB) per room per night (single/double occupancy). It is one of best in the area. The rooms are bright and clean, and a basic breakfast is included. This will get booked quickly. If this suits your budget, book early. The booking should be done by email [log in to unmask] to Mr Xuan Dongbo. Please write to him, mention that you will attend the Conference and indicate the type of accommodation you require.

It is strongly recommended that all delegates from outside China attending the Conference book into this hotel. Transport will be provided free between this hotel and the Conference venue.

Travel

The nearest airport to HNU, Xiasha campus is the Xiaoshan International Airport, about 30-40 minutes by car. Shanghai Pudong International Airport is about an hour by train from Hangzhou Railway Station and more than three hours by car or coach from Hangzhou downtown or Xiaosha campus. Public bus services are good at 15 to 20 minute interveals. The price varies according to the route which is at the range from one to four yuan per journey. There are local taxi services that are easily available. The start fare for a taxi in Xiasha is 6 yuan RMB (£0.60 ) and 11 yuan RMB (£1.1) in Hangzhou proper for the first 3 km and then 2.5 yuan RMB per km for the next 3-10km and 3.75 yuan RMB per km for distance over 10 km.

                Hangzhou is the capital and largest city of Zhejiang Province in eastern China with a population of 8.7 million. It is 180 kilometres southwest of Shanghai.
