This is a big issue for us too, as most lecturers here are very concerned (to put it politely) about the lists not being in proper bibliographic format. However, developing the Export Citations function would be preferable to Talis setting styles. If it could work with some more reference managing software packages (e.g. RefWorks, Zotero etc.), these already have standard styles set up, and you can usually create your own (we've done this with RefWorks and EndNote as we also use a local variation of Harvard). At the moment the results of exporting from Aspire to EndNote are patchy, as it depends on the quality of the original data, but if this could be improved then end users would have the option of generating lists in any style they chose via Export.

Asking around, none of our lecturers have expressed an interest in the export option, but many are very keen to have their resources expressed in correct citation style.
Would the choice of citation styles be set by Talis or could we chose our own?
At NTU we use an in-house version of Harvard (it's just an expanded version of the British Standard Harvard referencing, so the British Standard would be OK for us.) In a way, to avoid confusing the students, it would be worse for us to have a slightly different citation style (which they might just copy) than the current display, which is obviously no citation style at all.

Good timing! We were talking about this in the office this afternoon. Along with export reference in a given citation style, we think this is one of the key areas of missing functionality for academics in Campus Edition. Really the idea should have been marked as under review, as we have been talking about it for some time (done).
One thing we were discussing was that for a printed copy, the output ideally needs to be in an official citation style format. So we're thinking of bringing the citation styles into the app before focusing on the export.
What do others think? Is this the right order of priority (citations first, export next)?

It is currently joint 5th in terms of votes and it remains one of the most contentious issues here at UCL. I have one academic that is telling everyone and anyone that this is a major drawback and reassuring her that it has been suggested as an idea isn't having any effect any more. More significantly it could being to damage our roll-out of the service.
We've also just run a very quick survey of students that had access to lists in Aspire last term. Out of 30 respondents 2 specifically mentioned that they want to be able to download the entire list as a .doc file. Not a high percentage I agree, but I think it is significant that out of a relatively small group 2 people mentioned it.
With 24 votes this does seem to be a feature that other sites would like to see too.
