Records and Library Officer          £24,378 (pro-rata)

The British Dental Association (BDA) is the national professional association for dentists in the UK and we are currently seeking a Records and Library Officer to work in our Library and Knowledge Services team.

 

This is a new part-time role (to work on Mondays and Tuesdays) and the post-holder will be based in our offices in central London. The post-holder will work in conjunction with the Records and Knowledge Manager (who works part-time, three days per week) to ensure the seamless delivery of records management services and projects and actively reinforce good records practices across the organisation. The post-holder will be the first point of contact for day-to-day records enquiries and be responsible for cataloguing pamphlets, reports and ephemera as required; cataloguing articles on to the library management system from journals not indexed on Medline; retrospectively cataloguing on to the library management system old stock; assisting with enquiries from BDA members both in person at issue desk and by telephone; assisting with shelving duties: and using the library specific and BDA’s IT systems and software to input and access data and for carrying out standard office applications. Candidates should note that the post involves manual handling.

 

The successful candidate must possess a library/information/records management qualification at degree or postgraduate level or suitable experience of working in a medical / dental / special / academic Library or  records management environment; excellent attention to detail and accuracy; good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate information in a simple and straightforward way; the ability to develop good working relationships with other colleagues; excellent organisational and time-management skills; the ability to work independently and as part of a team; a flexible attitude; an understanding of records management or a willingness to develop this knowledge: and good IT skills with experience of using a library management system being desirable.
