Hello

I just looked at the Funding Opportunities with the NIHR Health Services and Delivery Research programme.

Research Brief 12/5002  calls for proposals on research to improve knowledge transfer and innovation in healthcare delivery and organisation.

This brief is worth reading for its approach to the main topic areas, particularly in its concentration on how information supports managers.  In particular, this paragraph caught my eye

“A recent SDO-funded scoping review in this area concluded, “the bulk of future organisational activity in knowledge mobilization needs to be devoted to building high learning capacity and appropriate core competences in NHS organizations rather than relying on a technological fix to construct formal knowledge management systems.” (Ferlie 2010) At present though, we do not know enough about what these core competences and positive organisational features look like. [Note – I haven’t found this quotation from Ferlie in following up the reference....]

The next area of work looks at the development of “improving critical review capacity in managers” – critical appraisal skills and more.

The L word doesn’t seem to be used, and knowledge management isn’t used much, but this is important background for the work we do and aspire to support.
