Dear All,

Please find below link to an editorial (signed by 15 editors) about the dangers of plagiarism and self-plagiarism.

http://pubs.acs.org/doi/pdf/10.1021/nn3000912

The editors note that "Plagiarism is an act of academic fraud that implies "taking over the ideas, methods, or written words of another, without acknowledgment and with the intention that they be taken as the work of the deceiver (1)".

They point out that "There are a number of serious problems that arise from self-plagiarism", since self-plagiarism:

"(ii) generates a poor reputation for one's self and one's group";

"(iii) may result in copyright infringement"; and

"(iv) … manuscripts will be retracted and featured on the Retraction Watch Web site".

From EVEDENCE-BASED-HEALTH perspective, I would add that self-plagiarism (also known as duplication publications) can seriously distort making the right decisions in EBM.

 See this link  http://retractionwatch.wordpress.com/category/by-reason-for-retraction/duplication-retractions/

It will be interesting to see what others thing on this issue.

All the best,

Jordan
