The Department of Social & Policy Sciences at the University of Bath is offering a new University Research Studentship (URS) for doctoral research with Professor Paul Gregg (http://www.bath.ac.uk/soc-pol/people/pgregg.html).


The research must relate to the quantitative analysis of one (or more) of the following three areas:

- Unemployment: Any aspect of unemployment policy (e.g. welfare to work programmes), unemployment incidence (such as youth unemployment) or effects of unemployment on people’s lives (such as poverty or scarring effects).

- Poverty and children’s life chances: for example, the impact of financial distress on family stress and child development or the impact of changes in benefits generosity reforms on children etc.

- Intergenerational mobility: for example the impact of educational reforms on children’s educational attainment across poorer and more affluent families or widening participation policies etc.


The Department of Social and Policy Sciences at the University of Bath has a vibrant and active research community, including over 80 PhD students. It was ranked 2nd in the UK for research in social policy and social work in the last national research assessment, and was also awarded the 2011 Queen's Anniversary Prize for research on child poverty and support for vulnerable people.
