Peter Kindermans assault on dsm5 today has been picked up by the press all round the world. We need the Society to take a stand but we should also just get on with it and not be inhibited by learned fence sitting.

As psychologists we should be commenting and raising concerns about the Health and Social Care Bill and also the Welfare Reform Bill which marginalises and further impoverishes people who have least power. This will have horrible psychological and social consequences and is already dividing people and setting them against each other.

We need to be challenging that, and contributing to more socially and critically aware conversations in the media, wherever we can... Challenging the Health and Social Care bill is one way of doing that. Interesting in that regard that the only defeat the coalition have had in the Lords so far about the Bill is around mental health earlier this week
