****************************************************** * http://www.anthropologymatters.com * * A postgraduate project comprising online journal, * * online discussions, teaching and research resources * * and international contacts directory. * ****************************************************** *Call for SAW Proposal Submissions, AAA 2012: * The Society for the Anthropology of Work (SAW) invites submissions for the 2012 American Anthropological Association Annual Meeting, to be held in San Francisco, California, November 14-18. We are open to panels and papers on all subjects, but especially encourage submissions related to this year's theme of "Border Crossings." This theme seems ideally suited to our section, as scholarship around work regularly involves the crossing of boundaries, whether cultural, geo-political, or disciplinary. We welcome panels that consider the movement of jobs, workers, information, and the products of labor across national or cultural boundaries. Panels might also concern work that in itself involves transgressing boundaries, straddling different cultures, languages, or identities. In the past decades, anthropologists of work have examined how technology both facilitates and complicates such crossings. Sessions may also explore the work we do as anthropologists, and the crossings---personal, professional, ideological---that work requires. Wealso look forward to receiving submissions that consider the local context of San Francisco, and that further our mission of producing scholarly work that is politically engaged and accessible to broad audiences. We welcome proposals from those working within and outside academic contexts and across all regions and subfields. Although we do consider individual paper and poster submissions, it is worth noting that complete panels have a much higher rate of acceptance. *_Deadlines: _* *Invited Sessions*must be submitted through the AAA website by *March 15, 2012*. In order to be considered for invited status, all session or roundtable participants must be registered for the conference by this date. Co-sponsored sessions are a good way to encourage cooperative engagement with other sections, so please indicate on your proposal if there is another section that might be interested in co-sponsoring your proposed invited session. Decisions will be announced in early April. Sessions not selected for Invited Status will automatically be considered as Volunteered Sessions. *Volunteered Sessions*are due by April 15, 2012. All participants must be registered for the conference by that date. As with Invited Sessions, this includes all paper and poster sessions, roundtable proposals, and individual paper/poster submissions. Panel submissions must include a 500-word abstract as well as individual abstracts for each participant (although roundtables require only a session abstract and participant names). *_Submission Details:_**__* Session proposals must include a session abstract of up to 500 words and information for all participants (including individual abstracts). Roundtable submissions require a 500-word abstract and participant names (individual abstracts are not required for roundtable participants.) Paper and poster submissions need only provide one abstract. Participants must abide by AAA rules regarding roles, registration, and fees, as described on the AAA website (http://www.aaanet.org). *_SAW Travel Awards: _* *__* SAW welcomes student submissions and will provide *June Nash Student Travel Awards* of $250 to all students who present papers on SAW-reviewed panels. This year we are pleased to announce the new *SAW Fellows Program*, which provides financial assistance ($250) to all unemployed or underemployed scholars who present papers on SAW-sponsored panels. This category includes individuals working as adjuncts, contingent employees, and others in non-tenure-track positions.
