The closing date for two research associates in medical statistics at
Lancaster University and the MRC Biostatistics unit is approaching
soon (6. March).

Applications are invited for two research associate positions on the
MRC funded project “Designing and analysing multi-arm multi-stage
clinical trials with one or more endpoints”. One appointment will be
working at Lancaster University’s Department of Mathematics and
Statistics, while the other will be located at the MRC Biostatistics
Unit, Cambridge. Both positions are funded for 3 years, with a start
date of 1 May 2012, or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointments
will be on Grade 6 (Lancaster, £23,811 – £31,020) with the starting
salary depending on completion of the PhD and experience.

In the early stages of drug development there often is uncertainty
about the most promising among a set of different treatments. This
project will develop a body of research in the area of multi-arm
multi-stage clinical trials (MAMS) which aim to provide an efficient
solution to this problem. The project is a cross-institutional
initiative between the Statistics Groups at the Universities of
Lancaster and the MRC Biostatistics Unit in Cambridge led by Thomas
Jaki (Lancaster), Jack Bowden and James Wason (Cambridge). Applicants
should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Statistics or related
discipline. Good programming skills are essential and experience with
adaptive or group sequential trials is desirable. Informal enquires
can be addressed to Dr Thomas Jaki ([log in to unmask]), Dr Jack
Bowden ([log in to unmask]) or Dr James Wason
([log in to unmask]).
