Also - would a 10ug / 400unit supplement be sufficient for patients with more severe deficiency (25-OHD <30nmol/l) ?

Our data from last year shows 34% of over 65's with 25-OHD in this range!

Thank you for pointing this advice out Jonathan.

People aged 65 years and over and people who are not exposed to much sun should also take a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D.”

People don’t get ‘exposed to much sun’ in Cumbria even in the summer so I guess this advice could be interpreted as meaning that we should all take a supplement in this part of the world.

I note that there is no recommendation to measure serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D.

A problem for GPs is that there isn’t a 10ug tablet in the BNF for them to prescribe.

Is everybody expected to buy there own over–the–counter?

Regards,

Wayne.
