Hi Jaqui,

You may find this useful

If H&S are acting as the responsible person then they should be referring anyone requiring level 3 assessment to a qualified OHA. Your friend needs to find out how the questionnaires are handled and by whom and the confidentiality of the results.

Kind Regards

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] H&S doing HAVs screening

Hi all

I am interested in hearing others opinion as I have been asked for advice by a friend.

He works as a tree surgeon and has been given a HAVs questionairre to complete (level 2) and with it is a letter which states that the information provided will be confidential to the H&S team but discussed with an OHN if appropriate. There is even a section for him to be declared fit/unfit to use vibrating equipment!

Now dont get me wrong, I am not being precious or searching for their business he has asked me if he should give his H&S team answers to the yes/no questions as he is concerned that any yes's may question his fitness for work and the information shared with his manager. (he has no HAVs symptoms however has had upper limb problems in previous occupations which cause him senso neuro symptoms from time to time)

I know we can use technicians to do HAVs assessments but they have an obligation with information given.

I want to give him a reasoned answer rather than my gut feeling.

Jacqui
