We are inviting applications for a full-time AHRC PhD studentship in any
area of Digital Media or Media History starting in September 2012.

We are inviting applications for a full-time AHRC PhD studentship in digital
media and media history, starting in September 2012.
The studentship will be located within the Communication and Media Research
Institute (CAMRI) - the UKıs number one research group in media and
communication as rated by the UK Governmentıs 2008 Research Assessment
Exercise, with a score of 60% 4*, 30% 3*, 10% 2*. We have over 20 research
active staff and more than 50 PhD students. We have a wide and expanding
range of research interests, including media economics and policy, media
history, political communication, questions of identity and media, new
media, and international communication. We have established centres for the
study of the media in China, India, the Arab world and Africa. In the
broadest sense we are interested in the social, economic, political and
cultural significance of the media. For this studentship we welcome
proposals from prospective students on any topic related to digital media or
media history.

Eligible candidates will hold at least an upper second class honours degree
and a Masters degree and must have a relevant connection with the UK,
normally consisting of minimum of three years residence for purposes other
than education.

The Studentship consists of a fee waiver and a stipend of £16,000 per annum.
Successful candidates will be expected to undertake some teaching duties.

MeCCSA is the subject association for the field of media, communication and
cultural studies in UK Higher Education. Membership is open to all who teach
and research these subjects in HE institutions, via either institutional or
individual membership. The field includes film and TV production,
journalism, radio, photography, creative writing, publishing, interactive
media and the web; and it includes higher education for media practice as
well as for media studies.
