Saturday 14th, 2pm @ The Bank of Ideas, London.
The Leveson Inquiry was set up after the scandal of phone hacking in the tabloid press reached critical mass with the revelation that murdered school girl Milly Dowler’s phone had been hacked by the News of The World. Along with the suborning of politicians to the power of Rupert Murdoch in particular and allegations of corruption right at the top of the Metropolitan Police, it is clear that the tabloid press were and are an unaccountable power and law unto themselves. This discussion will hear from Dave Boyle (Cooperatives UK) and Richard Peppiatt (fresh from giving evidence to Leveson, ex-Daily Star reporter), Natalie Fenton and Des Freedman (both from Goldsmith University).
