Research is currently being undertaken into the life and work of Joseph Bickerton Morgan, a Welshpool man who died tragically young in 1894. He is believed to have contributed extensively to a fossil collection once held by the Powysland Museum, Welshpool and loaned fifty years ago to the Department of Geology, National Museum of Wales, Cardiff. However, that collection holds very few specimens collected by Morgan. It is believed that some of his personal specimens were gifted to or bought by other collectors, especially those interested in the Ordovician and Silurian of Mid Wales and the Borders. Some enquiries have been made to other museums but the researchers would be grateful to hear from anyone who thinks they may hold specimens collected by Joseph Bickerton Morgan.

In addition, Morgan was also involved in curating a collection of shells eventually numbering around 1000, still held in Welshpool in 1922, but with no record since then. This included a collection of more than eighty land and freshwater shells of Montgomeryshire, including some discoveries by Morgan. These have disappeared without trace and we wonder if any museums were offered them during the mid to late 1900s
