hard to know what to make of this . . .but one thing is for sure, my filmmaker students have no interest in perturbing anything . . . they wanna learn how to make successful poplar movies . . . anything that gets in the way [“perturbs”] the path to those skills is worthless to them

People make films, people make ideas. If ideas are things then we all do the same thing. In a flat ontology theory and praxis come together because they both perturb the world. Godard jump cut perturbed. Metz writing about it perturbed. New ideas and new film techniques followed.
