Well-spotted on the Powys figure! No, £130k was the amount charged. With "early payment reduction" of 20% that will be £104k.

No, there is no legal requirement for a SIRO. Are you sure it's a legal requirement in the NHS? - it's part of the the IG framework but as far as I know it's only a recommendation of good practice.

Jonathan,

I noticed they had the fine for Powys as 180k? Was that before they made representations? As it was listed as £130k.

Is the SIRO a legal requirement though?  I saw the guidance, but there does not appear to be a legal requirement for it in the way it is for the NHS.

If someone can clarify the legal requirements, per Ciaran’s comment, I would be grateful.

I know it is a good idea and good for any organisations, but I also know a 5 mile run every day is good for me. J

Best,

Lawrence

The LGA Data Handling Guidelines import the concept http://www.lga.gov.uk/lga/aio/1587602

Also, local authorities received a letter yesterday from Christopher Graham and Bob Kerslake, Permanent Secretary at DCLG, on "Information Governance Assurance" which, among other things, states that all local authorities should have by now have "indentified [sic] and trained a Board Level inidividual as SIRO".

Could someone please clarify the legal requirements for a Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO)?

Is it just central government departments which are obliged to appoint a SIRO – or does it also apply to local government and/or other public bodies?

Many thanks.
